Please Participate in Cyberinfrastructure Survey (deadline extended)

Dear Colleague:

You are invited to participate in a University of Illinois/University of Michigan research study of how cyberinfrastructure can support the needs of the environmental engineering and hydrologic science research community. We would greatly appreciate your taking 15-20 minutes to share your opinions with us.

This study is part of a larger effort, funded by the National Science Foundation, to better understand how to support the cyberinfrastructure needs of scientific and engineering research communities. Barbara Minsker, an associate professor with the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois, is one of the principal investigators of the CLEANER (Collaborative Large-scale Engineering Analysis Network for Environmental Research) Project Office planning grant. The project office is charged with assessing the cyberinfrastructure needs of the environmental engineering community. You may not directly benefit from this study; however, the results of this effort will help drive the development of future collaboration tools and other technologies to support research in your field and others, particularly for the CLEANER project office and CUAHSI (Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc.). There are expected to be no risks to participation beyond those that exist in everyday life. It is not possible for us to understand the relevant factors without responses from individuals engaged in a range of activities, which means that your response is very important to us.

Your participation in completing this survey is voluntary. You may skip questions that make you uncomfortable, and you are free to withdraw at any point. Your responses will be used for research purposes only and will be kept in secure locations at the University of Illinois. Only primary members of the research team at the University of Illinois will have access to these data. The information you provide in the survey on the website will be kept confidential and secure. Furthermore, all personal information will be presented only in an aggregate form in reports and publications. Individual responses will not be identifiable. Thank you in advance for taking time to complete this important survey. If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact Barbara Minsker via e-mail at cleanerinfo@ncsa.uiuc.edu. If you have any questions about your rights as a participant in this research, please contact the University of Illinois Institutional Review Board at 217-333-2670 (you may call collect) or via email at irb@uiuc.edu.

If you choose to participate, you can also sign up to receive a summary of the results via e-mail. If possible, please complete the online survey by Friday April 7, 2006.

Please click on the survey link below to indicate that you have read and understood the above consent document and agree to participate in this survey. If you wish to have a copy of this consent form for your records, please select “Print” from the File menu at the top of your browser.
